Have you seen most of my posts in this thread? Trust me, you are not weird. Might want to dig back through the past few pages, there are several arachnid videos.Chocobo wrote: I guess I can be called a bit weird for finding Arachnids very fascinating.[/b]

Heyo, new member! Yaz aren't weird, or we're all weird, but whatevs.
Oh, right. Any more mascot suggestions? Byaku suggested a couple that I'll be putting up in the OP. Once we get enough I suppose I'll put it up to vote.

I could help make a banner for the club. I do a little pixel work here and there. Perhaps I can make a few bugs.

Liking arachnids is not weird! It's natural.

Re: Bug-Lover's Club
Surprisingly, no Drosophila. My professor *hates* raising them. Too messy and smelly. We do study Manduca (look up the larvae, they look really cool!) and Oncopeltus (which are a beautiful orange). Unfortunately, I can't say that they live particularly happy lives--especially the manduca. Some of our research entails putting them on starvation diets, or extracting certain organs from them >.>Byakugan01 wrote:
What other insects besides flour beetles does your lab study Kestrad? I'm going to guess Drosophila right off the bat.
Mascot suggestions? How about a manduca larva?
Kestrad has been eaten by life. She'll probably pop back in occasionally.

What exactly do you use those larva to study anyway? I would figure that anatomy is well known, and the only things I can think of for starvation diets are lifespan (lower calorie intake=longer lifespan in mammals) and stress response. So what is it you study? Can you share? *curious eyes*

Re: Bug-Lover's Club
I suggest something more familiar for the mascot. Such as a species of butterfly, a ladybug, a spider, a firefly or even a moth. Maybe a bee or wasp.

Re: Bug-Lover's Club
Could you be a little more specific species-wise, please?
Manduca's popular. We have a few labs around here studying them. I think sometimes we're allowed to take extras to raise. They turn this beautiful blue due to the food we feed them.
