09.05.2011- A new batch has just arrived, consisting of 9 adoptables. The kitten-designing contest for May is being held now, you can enter your kithos until 14.05.2011. There are two new backgrounds avaliable to buy too :3 And I'm going to launch a new event as soon as this one is judged (if you have any spare pyhmy phoenixes, you might consider saying goodbye to them earlier than you'd expect...).

22.04.2011- The contest is over, and now I'm doing the litters, ordered by those who've won. I've posted a new batch of kothos in the Adoption Center (one of them is a Newbie Adoptable :3), but there is a special Easter event, which provides another way to obtain a kotho- Easter Egg Hunt! 25.02.2011- I'm very sorry for the hiatus that was meant to last three days and lasted nearly a week! Fortunately, everything's all right now. And know what? We hit 50 adoptables! So, I'm organizing a special event- after the current batch of kothos is adopted, I'll do a lottery- read more here. Also, to make up for the long wait, I'd like to introduce a brand-new breed of Kothos- bird-winged longhaired kothos! They are Mysticals- it means they will be avaliable to adopt for the price of 12000g. There are NO BIRD-WINGED kothos in the current batch, but a couple will appear in the next.

• What's a kotho and how to obtain one

Kotho is a fantasy catlike creature. Why a "kotho" and not just a "cat"? Well, have you ever seen a blue cat with pink spots? However, markings are not the only difference. There are multiple types of kothos, some of them rather familiar to us all- with folded ears, that remind of the Scottish Fold cats, with no tails- anyone else thinks Manx? But there are others, which you cannot encounter in the world you live in, only in here... ones with bodies of flame and water, ones that look like angels and demons.
If you've made up your mind and decided to adopt one, you need to know that there are several ways to obtain a kotho:
1. Adoption Center. Every now and then some new kotho kits appear here. The kits all have the same base and their eyes are always clean blue, but they grow up to be completely individual. Adopting a kotho always costs some gold- if it costs more, it will probably turn into a Modified or maybe even a Magic Kotho!
2. Customs. From time to time it will be able to get a custom kotho. There are two types of customs- the cheaper ones, for which you need to buy a Magical Painting Set, are sprites of any breed colored just as you want them to look. But if you want a super-special kotho, drawn especially for you, then you need to afford a Magical Scuplting & Painting Set. There is also a special item called Mystical Thread used for creating Plushie Kothos.
3. Special events. On different special occasions there will be different kinds of contests or raffles organized, when you'll be able to obtain some kothos.
4. Breeding. If you have a male and female pair, you'd better check if there are any Affection Nectars avaliable to buy! If so, then you should try buying one- it will make your kothos fall in love. There is only one result- a litter of cute, little kithos. The number of youngsters born may range between 1 and 5 and different types of Affection Nectars make giving birth to a large litter more or less likely.
5. Gifting. Adult kothos cannot be sold. You may gift/sell someone a kit from your litter, though, or buy a kotho for someone else.

• Breeds of kothos

There are three general groups of kotho types: basic, modified and Mystical. Generally the basics' genes are the strongest, so they are the most common and the easiest to breed- it also means they are worth the less, while Mysticals always cost the most.
1. Basic kothos:

• a) Longhaired- if it were colored like a normal cat, it could easily distinguish as one.
  b) Shorthaired- if one of them's a brown tabby, it would prctically look just like any moggie.

2. Modified kothos:

• a) American Curl- their untypical ears make them look rather unusual among the basic kothos.

3. Mystical kothos:

• a) Water- it's a well-known fact that most cats hate water, but it's different with kothos. Some of them love it, and some of them are literally made of water! You can obtain a Water kotho from the Adoption Center, by breeding or using a special item, Water Potion
  b) Bird-winged Longhaired- some normal longhaired kothos sprout wings as they grow up and when they reach to adulthood, they usually have the ability to soar above the tops of the highest trees! You can obtain a Bird-winged Longhaired kotho from the Adoption Center, by breeding or using a special item, Winged Potion
  c) Plushie- Plushie kothos are very special ones- they cannot breed, as they are apparently made of material. They breathe and meow and even play, but they cannot produce offspring: the only way to get them is sewing them using an one-use item, Mystical Thread. A plushie kotho is always based on one you own- it's kind of like a VooDoo doll. If your kotho has a plushie of itself, it can see with its button eyes! Plushies without their "original versions" always die- there is only one who got through the loss of its "parent" and it's number is 100.

• Items

There will be a variety of items added, such as accessories, wearables and backgrounds, as well as special Potions that will make your regular basic or modified kotho change into a Mystical. From time to time there will be some Affection Nectars used for breeding or Magical Sets for creating customs.

• Adoption Center

All the young kothos- called simply kithos- have blue eyes, but they change with age. As the kithos grow up, the colors and markings on their pelts change- usually they just get more saturated, but sometimes some completely new patterns develop on their fur! That's the most exciting part of it! Also, you can never know what breed will your kotho be. Generally basic kothos are for 4000g, modified for 8000g and Mystical for 15000g- if a price for a kitho is a bit higher, it means it will grow up to have something really special about it!
If a kitho is named, you can change its name for free. The names appear only if a kotho is based on an existing character, most likely from the Warriors series.

Rules:
1. You may not edit the post in which you send your adoption forms. If a post is edited, it will be ignored.
2. You may not adopt more than 3 kothos from one batch (even if you adopt them for someone else).
3. Please check for any typos, as it is a hard and pointless work to change the text after a pic's saved as an .png. If you made a mistake and you want me to correct it, and I don't have the .xcf file already, you must pay 1000g for this.
4. The order is- I upload new adoptables, you send the adoption form, I write in a post which kotho goes to who, then you send the payment.
5. If there is "Newbie Adoptable" written beside the kotho, it means you can adopt it only if you have 3 or less kothos already.

There are two ways to obtain items- have them won/gifted or bought. You buy them for the basic MagiStream currency, gold. Always read the description before buying!

Your kotho is bound to love playing with these- they are round, soft and colorful! Collecting the yarn after it gets spread everywhere is not so enjoyable, though...

This huge, black bird might make a good companion for your kotho.

White ravens are very rare, but thanks to special breeding program they've become relatively obtainable.


Writing kit- 555g each -accesory-
Writing kit doesn't mean a kitho who has the ability to write! It means a sheet of paper, a bottle of ink and a special feather used to calligraph.


Shiny Mushrooms- 700g each -background-
This background suggests that your kotho has a soft spot for unusual places- is it true?


Rocky Valley- 350g each -background-
If you go there, make sure your kotho doesn't step on any sharp rocks- cutting a pawpad is never pleasant!


Mountain Morning- 700g each -background-
Spending a sunrise on the highest peaks of the mountains is a truly unusual experience! Your kotho will never forget it if you give this background to them.


Skywatcher's Hill- 400g each -background-
If your kotho enjoys gazing at stars, this background will definitely suit them.



Clan Logo stones: WindClan, RiverClan, ShadowClan, ThunderClan, SkyClan, StarClan, Black- 700g each -accesory-
Your kotho can have this sign of loyalty so everyone knows what Clan they belong to. (the clans are from book series 'Warriors' copyrighted to Erin Hunter

It is said that only Mystical kothos have the ability of reading the future from these glass balls, but I'm sure every single creature will be really happy to have it beside themselves just look at it.


Thief's Glove (out of stock) -one use item-
If you arrived a bit too late and someone has already ordered a kit you'd really like to have, just use this item. It works only on kithos, so if an adult pic is already uploaded it's impossible to "steal" an adoptable. And you still have to pay for the kotho, of course- you just step in front of its original adopter in the queue. You need to paste the special spell in your post- "I'm not a thief and I'll never be, but this little kotho will belong to me!" and then use the normal Adoption Form.

I'm sure every kotho enjoys trekking through green fields. With some luck you can watch the setting sun from a grassy hill...

Do you want to change your regular kotho into a Mystical? You can make it grow wings by giving it this special Winged Potion to drink! (attention: only works on basic longhaired kothos right now!).

• Breeding

If you have an Affection Nectar, you can breed a kotho with another one to get a litter of kithos. You can breed your kotho with your own or someone else's- they may ask for a sum of money or a kitho as a payment. You can only breed males with females.
There are between 1 and 5 kithos born in a litter. The chances of giving birth to a big litter depend on what Affection Nectar you use:
White: 1st kit- 100%. 2nd kit- 50%. 3rd kit- 25%. 4th kit- 15%. 5th kit- 1%.
Burgundy: 1st kit- 100%. 2nd kit- 100%. 3rd kit- 50%. 4th kit- 25%. 5th kit- 15%.
Golden: 1st kit- 100%. 2nd kit- 100%. 3rd kit- 100%. 4th kit- 50%. 5th kit- 25%.
(dice are thrown on the number of kithos)
Whether a kit is male or female depends on your luck. There is equal chance for both genders.
When the kithos are born, their pictures (they look the same as in Adoption Center) are sent. You need to reply, sending forms in which you name the youngsters. You may gift them to someone else or, if you don't want them- leave them at the Adoption Center. After a few days you'll obtain adult cards of them, with their names and their owner's name written on them.
Breeding different breeds of kothos will result in the offspring being of different breeds.

• How to obtain a custom

If you want to have a custom, you need to snag a special item- a Magical Painting Set (MPS) or a Magical Sculpting & Painting Set (MSPS). You can obtain them by either winning in a contest or trading, most likely for a Donation Pet.
If you have a MPS, you can ask for a kotho with markings and colors of your choice. You also choose any breed you want it to be, unless it's not avaliable. It can have any background and accessories, even those that aren't for sale at the moment. Descriptions are okay but refference pictures are the best if you want us to color a kotho just the way you see it in your head.
A MSPS is an exclusive thing- it can practically be only bought for shards (MagiStream Donation Pets), but it's tottally worth it! It's because you will get a fully customised kotho. You choose its pose, colors, you basically choose anything about it- and I draw it for you. Adding any accessories and background is for free. Just as with MPS, refference pictures are the best way to make me draw it just as you want it.
Usually 3 to 5 customs will be made per month.

Design Your Kitten Event! May

With a little delay we start this month's round of Kitten Designing Contest. Once again, you need to use this set of linearts. They are paint-friendly. Your mission is to pick a pair of your kothos (or your and someone else's if this person agrees) and create their love-child you'd like to see. You should pick just one of these linearts, coloring all of them will NOT increase your chances. Please don't use the two tiny ones, they are too small to do anything properly. Don't shade your picture, I just want to see clear markings. After you color, you should cut out just the one you've filled, save it and upload to Imageshack, Tinypic or Photobucket. The deadline of submitting your pictures is 14.05.2011- then I will pick my favourite, judging by how well the parents' designs are mixed and how interesting the outcome is.
You can do one, two or even three entries. Also, if you breed the two kothos you used for the contest, one of their kits will have the design you created! Someone might ask- why name an egg? Well, it's because from this egg, one of the new Modified kothos will hatch! Oh, and if you want to give the egg to someone else, just write their username in the form.
Once an egg is found, nobody else can claim it. Everyone can take just one egg, not more! You don't need to have any kothos yet to participate in this event. You don't pay for taking part in it!

Design Your Kitten Event! March

Now en event for everyone who likes designing characters! I've got a set of lineartsdrawn (quite a long ago), it's paint-friendly. Your mission is to pick a pair of your kothos (or your and someone else's if this person agrees) and create their love-child you'd like to see. You should pick just one of these linearts, coloring all of them will NOT increase your chances. Please don't use the two tiny ones, they are to small to do anything properly. Don't shade your picture, I just want to see clear markings. After you color, you should cut out just the one you've filled, save it and upload to Imageshack, Tinypic or Photobucket. The deadline of submitting your pictures is 05.03.2011- then I will pick my favourite, judging by how well the parents' designs are mixed and how interesting the outcome is.
There will be three prizes:
1st place: a Golden Affection Nectar- StarShaper!
2nd place: a Burgundy Affection Nectar- Meow!
3rd place: a White Affection Nectar- Yellowfang!
Also, if you breed the two kothos you used for the contest, one of their kits will have the design you created! I think everything's clear now, so good luck and have fun!

As in the current batch of kothos we reach #50- now owned by StarShaper- I decided we need to celebrate it (also, I need to apologize for the unexpected 6-days long hiatus)- sooo... after the Adoption Center is emptied, I'm going to make a special lottery: I will just throw a virtual 50-sided die. Then I'll check who's the owner of a kotho that has the raffled number, and this person will get a possibility to have a custom created- for FREE! And not just custom markings, but a whole new lineart, exclusive to only this single adoptable! I've got two extra-special adoptables for you.
1. They are animated! Runes on their bodies glow and shine, as well as their eyes.
2. Every breeding with them provides 5% higher chance to obtain a kit! Normally if you use a White Affection Nectar, chances for the kits to be born are: 1st kit- 100%. 2nd kit- 50%. 3rd kit- 25%. 4th kit- 15%. 5th kit- 1%, but if the mother's one of these, the chances grow to 1st kit- 100%. 2nd kit- 55%. 3rd kit- 30%. 4th kit- 20%. 5th kit- 6%.
3. These are the only three kothos to ever be made on this base (these two + one mine)! It means you won't find any other kotho using this lineart. As soon as they are adopted, I'm gonna remove it from my computer forever.

Sometimes an adult kotho doesn't have the NUMBER-1.png code, but a different one, like NUMBER.png or NUMBER.gif. The safest way to put a picture of your kotho into your signature is just by copying the image's adress (either right-click on it to find the right option on the list or left-click on it and 'move it' to the place where you normally type webpages' adresses). Then you just need to paste it into this code:

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why are these adoptables called 'kothos'?
A: I wanted something simple, catchy and connected with my language, which is Polish. As the Polish word for 'cat' is 'kot', I just added one vowel and I got a nice name, 'koto'. To make the pronounciation easier, I threw in an 'h' and that's how I came to a 'kotho'. A young kotho is called 'kitho', which of course combines the word 'kitten' and 'kotho'.

Q: What graphic program do you use?
A: All the kothos' linearts are drawn in Paint Tool SAI, I paint backgrounds in this program too. I use GIMP for coloring the adoptables, as well as for animating. Simple, small tools such as PhotoFiltre and GIFAT are sometimes useful for me too. Oh, and I work with a tablet- Genius G-pen 450.

Q: In what timezone do you live?

Q: What kind of new breeds and items do you plan to make and when will you do it?
A: I have a lot of ideas, but I don't put them in a list or calendar... sorry!

Q: Where does the nickname 'blackunia' come from?
A: I used to own a black cat with a white spot on her chest, her name was Blacky. I kind of stole it from her when she was adopted by us and it's been more than 4 years since I've been constantly using it. Since 2007 Blacky is the representation of me too- kind of like a fursona. Overtime I've changed her eye color from greenish-gold to amber, added and then removed a few scars and finally gave her wings and a halo when she died. I'm often called Blacky by my dev-friends and people from different Polish PBFRPGs.

Q: What music do you listen to?
A: I always listen to music when I draw (and when I design kothos!), so I decided I need to tell you! My favourite band is System of a Down, but I like everything that you can generally call rock. Sometimes I turn on something more happy and childlish (it doesn't mean immature!) like NeverShoutNever or Blink 182, sometimes I'm more into heavier artists like Flyleaf or Three Days Grace. When I'm in a bad mood, you can tell it by depressing songs I turn on. I like listening to soundtracks, for example from games like Okami or Kingdom Hearts, or from movies.
