On the subject of MS creatures, I think my gem cardinal looks a lot like a Magistream sprite. It just looks like it could be a creature. <3 I love it so much!

Those prehistoric insects are sweet.

THanks for the articles, Byaku! They're really interesting. Also, I'm hungry :P

I read about he jumping spider thing in Scientific America, very interesting indeed. They're truly marvelous little creatures

Sometimes there are bouts of inactivity .-. Not really too many of us. Plus we're a really new club.

I've actually just watched that episode! On netflix. It's a series on ancient creatures. Yes, it was the oxygen. Fsfsfs I love BBC documentaries. <3 David Attenborough. 5evar.

I'll add arthropleura armata to the suggestions list.

Before the Dinosaurs: Walking with Monsters

's a cool series.

So me and the bug club at the university where I'm at were going to go down to New Orleans to visit the insect museum they have there, and I let slip of this to my dad, who lives in Louisiana. Now he wants to go with us.

Awkward.

Hmm...just did a bit of research on it (the giant centipede). It appears that the creature in question may not, in fact, have been a centipede. At least if it was, its dietary habits were not in line with centipedes. A quick search indicates that, as fossils with gut contents preserved showed plant tissue, it might have been more of a giant milipede than a centipede.

And yup. Awkward is right. But hey, at least he wants to spend time with you, right? Think of it as a good thing...unless...is your dad of the "embarrassing parents" type?

Posting this here to talk about it later-these guys are downright WEIRD, and their likely living relatives aren't any less weird.

Ah, yeah, that's right, they were actually more millipede like. I'll correct that.

And yeah, it's not so bad... it's just that he can be rather overbearing. Plus, he doesn't know anyhting about bugs/isn't that interested, so my friends wouldn't have anything to do with him. Basically, he wants to steal me over spring break.

*stares at thing* It's like they mashed ticks, spiders, and trilobites into one thing.
