My favorites are the cricket dino and the T-dragon. Cass, mind if I bring them forward in the march doni pet thread? I really like those.

Also, I'll try and find more news tomorrow on inverts for discussion. Any kind of invert people want to see news of in particular?

Go ahead, Byaku. T-dragon's missing a few legs, couldn't fit them in.

Blah why is it so bright in the mornining it is winter is not supposed to be bright.

Any news is good, just go with what interests you :)

Thanks cass!

In the news I have found today- a short section on snails that "fly" through the water:

Yup. Potato chips of the ocean.

A short article on researchers managing to induce freezing tolerance in fruit flies:

http://www.physorg.com/news/2012-02-tol ... fruit.html

A discovery that jumping spiders-which are visual hunters-have a unique way of judging distance:

And finally, sexual competition of a sort in jumpers, somewhat like bighorn sheep:

edit: is no one interested in the news? Because I am trying to bring forward stuff I think we will have fun talking about, or at least commenting on. I like it when this guild is nice and active.

Oh, yes, also:
For the mascot, I'd vote for a centipede or the prehistoric meganeura.

...Or the prehistoric centipede, arthropleura armata! It is totally awesome.

Whoa, those are pretty impressive. Sure that they could actually rear up like that? At that size, I'd think they would have had difficulty lifting their body like that. What time period are they from?

I dont actually know much about them, I just think they are cool. Grabbed from wikipedia:
Late Carboniferous–Early Permian

The Carboniferous was a very busy age for insects, I believe, because of the high oxygen levels. However, I'm trying to remember from the many discovery channel specials and stuff on prehistoric life that I watched years ago, so I may easily have gotten that wrong.
