*sigh* this is one of the times being an arachnophile BITES-there are things so off about the spider from the comic you posted, Cass, that it hurts. Namely the fangs. No spider, anywhere, has fangs like that or a body like that...although The Adventures of Dr. McNinja is an awesome webcomic.
And those are some great banners-definitely going to look at putting one in my sig
Nit picking aside, I'd like to share a video from one of the larger figures in the arachnid community-tarantulguy1976 aka robc Spoiler
Should mention that zilla there is actually T. stirmi, but at the time of the video this species was actually not yet known.

Yes, in that video zilla is indeed skittish and somewhat agitated-and cass, you are for the most part right. Tarantulas are not the most active pets by and large, and are largely nocturnal (they do, however, move about during the day). However, a mature male will be very active, as its main goal is to seek out females to mate with-if it is lucky, more than one female. As a result, these spiders are very active.
However, males have a low life expectancy once they mature-about a year or two, depending on the species. Maybe even less. As a result, females are preferred much more as pets, and cost more as well. It's a worthy investment from my perspective though-depending one the species, a good size female tarantula can go for well over a hundred. A Brachypelma smithi (Mexican redknee)female can easily go for over 200 (this species is CITES listed, and as such all LEGAL specimens on the market were either caught before they were listed, or are their offspring-mostly it's the later).

Hi! Might I join? Not quite a bug lover, exactly, but figured since I do research on them...
...uh, I'll just stop talking and post my form now.
