Re: Bug-Lover's Club
Okay, I have species names. Yes, multiple. Now, tarantulas, like all spiders, and arguably centipedes and scorpions (neither of which I know much of, and will therefore will not comment on) will eat pretty much anything they can take down. So these frogs by all rights should be lunch. But they are not, and from what little I found in this quick search it appears that in at least one case, they are simply not palatable to the spider.
Species:(tarantula/frog)
Genus Poecilotheria: Sri Lankan painted bullfrog
Poecilotheria Ornata, P. subfusca lowland variant: Ramanella nagoi
Xenesthis immanis : Bolivian bleating frog
local desert tarantulas: tungara frog
And a paper dealing with this
Heh, why would I use Cracked when I'm a member of Arachnoboards? Can find information alot quicker there ;).
edit: infection? Why, that's survival of the fittest at it's finest! The young would hardly prosper if the mother was so WEAK, no?

Re: Bug-Lover's Club
It would seem that this is not exactly an uncommon arrangement-keep in mind that paper I just linked to is six years old, and described the relationship as commensal-benefiting one without benefiting or harming the other. That relationship described in the article you linked is definitely symbiotic-I would not at ALL be surprised if that's what's going on in all these cases, or if the commensal relationships are developing towards that kind of symbiosis, given the threat ants pose to the spiders. Also, my list is based on the knowledge of a single poster-there are probably more known ones.
