That sounds....like a really fun ideaCassowary wrote:I'd say that's a possibility.Byakugan01 wrote:...I take it this year's v-day critters are not small and cuddly. On another note, I think someone brought up it having been photoshopped. But what if it was an aquatic critter that had been living in dyed water? In other words, what if someone used the carnation trick on the critter? Could that work?

Re: Bug-Lover's Club
Ok that last one is scary. Is the brown tiny head its head, or is it the big black head? Also those first ones looks like the kind of ants you can fry and eat and it tastes like honey. I remember reading that somewhere...

Re: Bug-Lover's Club
The big black is its head. All the rest is mouth. And that ant is carnivorous ;). I recall seeing it on Cracked once...
The first one...forget their name, but I know that you CAN buy colonies of them and set them up in an ant farm-I recall one being designed specifically so those workers (only one caste in the nest is like that) could hang from the ceiling, which I understand is what they do naturally. Care to gives us species names Cass?

Ah, yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if people tried to keep setups of those guys.
No species name, just a generic one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honeypot_ant
They're honeypot ants, and the swollen ones that are characteristic of those species are called repletes. They act as living larders, storing food in a special gut-sac and feeding other ants in times of famine.
The other one is a Trapjaw ant,Odontomachus bauri.

Trapjaw ants look cool when they have their mandibles open like that. Still wouldn't want to touch one though.

Ants give me shivers down my spine. I almost screamed at that other picture. I've had a terrifying experience with ants...

Re: Bug-Lover's Club
What kind of experience? Other than army ants and situations involving arthropod pets, I have a hard time imagining a terrifying situation involving ants.

Re: Bug-Lover's Club
Fire ants. I was walking on a bird trail in Ecuador and I must have stepped on an ant pile. They all came crawling up my legs and I had about 100 on my legs, all biting. It was terrible.
