Found by a young Magi, it was repaired, and loved. Eventually, a mate was built for it. The pair still remain with the descendants of that young Magi, but their progeny have spread throughout the world.
Egg- A marvel of the jeweler's art, this egg seems to be made of thin sheets of silver, held together with gold. if you hold it to your ear, you can hear a soft chiming, like the sound of a crystal goblet being struck.
Hatchling- All silver and crystal, the young Nightingale has found a perch and settled in to practice its scales. Up and down the octaves, it trills and peals. The sweet, angelic tones resonate in your chest, washing away all cares.
Adult- Beautiful and affectionate, Mechanical Nightingales are one of the most loyal companions a Magi can acquire. While not the most robust of creatures, they are highly intelligent and brilliantly radiant. They are capable of flight, but prefer to remain on their home perches, expressing their devotion through song. A trifle vain, and have been known to spend hours preening and sunning themselves.
As mates, they are strongly monogamous, and have been known to pine for lost mates or masters to the point to death themselves, so a wise Magi will keep their Nightingales well cared for. Nearly immortal if maintained, it is possible to transfer the affection a Nightingale has for it's first Master to another, but it has to be done with great delicacy and care. If they are traded without consideration, they have been known to escape their new Master and return to the Emperor's Forest where their progenitor was abandoned so many centuries ago.
