When the mycelial felis hatchlings hatch, they already have the wing-like mushroom appendages poking out of their backs. They are too young for the mushrooms to carry any spores yet, but they grow at a fast pace. The felis hatchlings spend a good part of their life cared for by the winged cats that, for some reason, do not seem to care the hatchlings tend to be a little peculiar. They play and explore as much as any other kitten and might turn a little mischievous when the night comes and their coat's color changes. Once the hatchlings learn how to teleport, they do not return to their surrogate families, choosing to explore human settlements instead.

Recently discovered, the mycelial felis has divided people into two sides. One side - the pragmatic people who study creatures - says the felis is a complex being with feelings and a wide range of personalities, carrying a parasite inside its body. The other side - comprised mainly of mushroom fanatics - claims the cat is merely a vessel for a brilliant mushroom. While both ideas have some similarities, people will argue relentlessly about what a mycelial felis is or isn't. Capable of teleportation and more interested in exploration than listening to people debate its nature, the mycelial felis care only about warmth and treats. It seeks human companionship during the daytime, acting like a simple cat, happy to receive pets and scratches behind its ears, and its behavior changes entirely once the sun sets, turning wild and energetic, eager to explore. People believe the parasitic mushroom has more control over the cat at night than during daytime, but more study is needed before such a conclusion can be reached.
