Rich Synarans and wealthy Taggelisk merchants often promise the perfect pet-the Pordrake, a loyal, friendly, loving creature who will fit happily in any home and can even change their colors to match any decor. For a time they were a fad, and the creatures were everywhere, hopping and flitting about the city with happy looks on their adorable faces. Fashionable lords and ladies often had them perched on their shoulders. Then the pordrakes grew up. The adorable, perfect pet with their petite wings, who loves to play, loves nothing more than sitting around in the mud and growing fat and lazy once it hits a certain age. In the wild, they live in swamps, and rarely move. Although, people must admit, they are still quite loyal and friendly as long as they get fed.

Hatchling
Pordrake hatchlings are sweet and cuddly, and are full of energy. They love to hop and fly, following their magi wherever they go. They will happily play fetch, help their magi hunt, deliver messages, or just do tricks—anything to make their magi happy. They can learn nearly anything if given enough treats or attention. Their skin can change color, and it can match anything put in front of it, even pastels or fabrics with dozens of colors. In the wild, they use this ability to hide from predators.
Adult
Pordrake adults love to eat, and it shows. They grow throughout their lives, and it is obvious when they've hit adulthood because they grow too big to fly, their weight outstripping their wings. Their obedience and desire to please vanishes, replaced with a motivation for food and food alone. They seem to get vast amounts of calories from even small meals. Rain or shine, they can be found wallowing in mud or swampy areas, content to sit and eat and ignore their surroundings. A magi can tell when they're happy and fed because their tongue hangs out of their mouths, as though they are too tired to even put it back in. They can still change colors, but prefer the greens and yellows of moss-covered swamps. It is very hard to convince them to change it, as though even using their natural ability takes too much effort to bother with. Lazy and gluttonous as they are, there is an old tale that a magi's life was saved by their pordrake using their color change ability to camouflage their magi from danger. Many think the story is only a myth, though.
