However, it depends on which side of the perk tree Gingy's going up. Daedric weapons are the best, but glass isn't too far behind. With the proper skill level and enchanted items, glass can be just as good or better than daedric weapons.
Daedric or gtfo.

It's so much sexier than anything else.
Except Nightingale armour, or custom mods.

So the Dragon perk gives you two armours, so what?
Nightingale is better than Dragon and Daedric is better than Dragon. There really is no contest.

Glass may be better than Daedric when enchanted, but can't Daedric also be enchanted (I don't enchant, so I don't know)?

Daedric is 'not much better', but it still means you can have another perk. A perk used for Dragon armour is a perk wasted.

The armour you get from the Thieves' Guild is the best light armour in the game (I think) as well as already having good thief perks.

Whichever way you go (thief or warrior) light armour perks are a waste of time and so is the dragon perk.

P.S. I hate the cape for Nightingale. It looks so horrid because my Khajit's tail is poking out and I'm like, "... Is his tail like, ethereal or some shit?"

Except Daedric weapons are the best you can smith.

Plus, Nightingale is better than any light armour you can craft, as well as giving good thief perks.

What's best depends on everyone's play styles and the enchantments they need. You can say Nightingale is the best all you want, but it's worthless to someone who needs Fortify Health or magicka based enchantments.

Skyrim is not a linear, black and white game. It'd be really nice if you'd stop trying to say it was.

Also, while daedric weapons are exceptionally powerful, at high levels (starting at around level 62 for me) you can find them quite often. At least, I'm finding them here and there; more than I'd expect. I found a number of armor pieces and one-handed weapons, and one unenchanted war hammer.

Exactly my point. It takes quite a lot of effort and time to get to 62. It's much easier and quicker to smith Daedric weapons.

Why would a thief need magicka-based enchantments? Most thieves aren't going to be using magic anyway. If you aren't a thief, I don't see why you wouldn't use heavy armour (because the only advantage to light armour is that it's light, which is a must for thieving, yet isn't for anything else).

There's no law that says a thief character can't use magic, nor is there a law that says only thief characters can use Nightingale armor.

There isn't, I just don't see why you would do either.
As I stated, the only advantage to light armour is it's weight, which is only important when sneaking, which only thieves need to do.
As someone else stated, magic is about dealing damage over time, where sneaking is about dealing a lot in a short time. It would be much wiser to pour your levels and perks into your one-handed skill, rather than your Destruction.
Other magic skills which are combat-related, a thief would have no need for. Like a summoned familiar would be more of a hinderance because it'd give away your position (happened to me with Uthgerd the Unbroken a lot >:l).

Light armor allows you to move faster as compared to when wearing heavy armor, as well as consuming less stamina when sprinting, and obviously takes up less inventory space.

Just because you don't see why anyone would use this or that for this or that doesn't mean that's a law or that there are people who won't do that.

Assassins need to sneak too and armour is important for them when they cant kill something in one hit.

And your argument about armour values is redundant as there is an armour cap of about 567 or about 80% physical damage reduction. Using a combination of enchanted items, potions and the right perks you can even craft steel and elven armour to that level (but this is pushing it to an extreme).
