My mom is more addicted to watching Skyrim than I am playing it. She wants me to play it any time that there isn't something she watches on TV. :|

Finally made some Daedric armor. I can't wait to get the Dragonplate perk. I have over 100 dragon scales and bones saved up for it.

I wish my mom was like that. She sits in the same room and reads while I play and comments a lot about how "boring" Skyrim is. :sulk:

I think he meant what to speck in and what to use.

I think assassin mage wouldn't really make much sense because most of the magic in the game is used to deal damage over time where as assassins want to use things on the sneak tree that make kills a one hit thing.

However, Sneak is a very high level thing. You're either going to need heaps of patience (to plot out each enemies' course and determine when to start moving when you're low level) or very high Sneak so you can have almost all (if not every single one) of its perks so you don't have to sit there for minutes.

I do recommend using Destruction or One-Handed as a means of defending yourself if you find yourself found out by the enemy.
A thief needs to be able to rely on their combat skills, not just their espionage ones.

Not really one to be talking to about magic (I haven't really used it yet), but I do know a bit about thieving. You're not gonna want to pour a lot of perks into lockpicking, because unless you break into people's houses a lot, you won't use it much and I generally find I can even pick Expert locks without even having one perk in lockpicking (if I have quite a few picks).

For pickpocketing, you'll need to determine if you're going to go to the Thieves' Guild straight off (like me), or just wander around the cities picking pockets to earn your money (the Thieves' Guild brings in quite a few bucks, I'm about halfway through and I've got 1.8k even though I haven't done any other quests, or done anything else to earn money).
Personally, I recommend going to the Thieves' Guild. The armour you get near the end is superb, the best light armour available, in my opinion/experience.

I found stalking Adrianne is quite a good way to get your Sneak up. She rarely comes near guards or other people at night, and wanders around all night.

Those are the main thieving skills, in my opinion. Hope this helps.

I can give some tips on a thief character, I'm playing one right now. XD

Start by sneaking all the time. Well, except when you need to talk to someone, or you get in close-ranged combat. Sneak through all the dungeons, everywhere, on every quest. It's hard until you get your sneak skill high enough. Remember that the speed you walk and the light you're in determines how easy it is to detect you. Keep to the dark, and go slowly around enemies.

I recommend starting off with a bow and arrows so it's easier to stay hidden. It's a lot easier to keep out of a fight if you can move away from where you shot the arrow, because the enemy comes straight to where you were standing when you shot the bow after a few seconds. If you do get in a fight, stick with one-handed and not magic because all increases in one-handed will go towards using daggers later for massive damage (with the 15x dagger sneak attack perk).

Armor doesn't matter too much because after a while you won't really need it at all. Light armor is slightly better for avoiding detection, but if you prefer heavy armor the Ebony Mail will take care of that. But really, eventually you'll be able to kill things without even a chance of them fighting back so it only matters in lower levels.

All the perks on the sneak tree are useful, none of the ones on the lockpicking tree are necessary if you're good at the lockpicking minigame. I don't know anything about pickpocket because I hate it and only ever used it in the quest to join the Thieves' Guild (but I've heard it's really fun to pickpocket people's clothes off). If you're having trouble with lockpicking, do the Thieves' Guild quests and keep the Skeleton Key until your lockpicking skill is higher, or even keep it forever if you don't care about finishing the quest chain.

If you want to level up your sneak the cheap and boring way:
There is a cave southeast of Whiterun called White River Watch. Inside is a blind guy who is very easy to exploit for easy sneak points. Rubberband your controller (or put something heavy on a keyboard key, I guess) so you're walking backwards against a wall, then go and do something else for a few hours while your sneak levels itself up. As long as you don't talk to him, he should stay where he is and not do anything to you.

Hmm. I thought you needed to be near enemies enough so that you could pickpocket them until your sneak started going up.

By the way, Gingy, don't get dragonplate perk. Daedric is better than dragonplate, it's a waste of time if you have Daedric already.
Sorry if this is too late for you and you've already sold your Daedric and/or gotten dragonplate perk. XD

Daedric is super heavy and not much better than Dragon armor. The Dragon armor perk also gives you TWO armors, light and heavy. Daedric gives you one. Therefore, the dragon perk would actually be better.

However, it depends on which side of the perk tree Gingy's going up. Daedric weapons are the best, but glass isn't too far behind. With the proper skill level and enchanted items, glass can be just as good or better than daedric weapons.
