Harry Potter, Chronicles of Narnia, Valdemar, & Varjak Paw FTW. ^_^ (And Varjaks' sequel, too.) Any books about animals, with important animal characters, or from the POV of animals are books that I will want to read. ^_^;

Phenora, if you've read Ever After, have you read Just Ella &/or Two Proncesses of Bamarre? They're by Gail Carson Levine too (that -is- her name, yes? oO) and also very very good.

Hmm, my list of favorite books tend to change over time, but I can say with all certainty that my favorite genre is mystery/crime novels.

One of my favorites of the mystery novels involves a series called "The Cat Who..." by Lillian Jackson Braun. My favorite from that series would have to be her first, "The Cat Who Could Read Backwards". I also like both of the Higgins Clark writers, but "Daddy's Little Girl" from Mary Higgins Clark is my favorite of their books.

Otherwise, I'm also a fan of the books "Bless Me, Ultima", "To Kill a Mockingbird", "The Secret Garden", "Anne of Green Gables", "Black Beauty" & "Pride and Prejudice". Actually, maybe I favor books that address societal issues, or that address the development of a character during a span of time. All of these books deal with sort of compaction of the two...

Mystery/Crime is still the more entertaining genre for me though. :D
Sometimes, life requires introspection. The questions of 'why am I here?', 'what is my purpose?' and 'why the hell are there clowns!?'. The important questions, obviously.

I'll read just about anything which isn't nailed down (and some things which are --- if I've nothing else to do and forgot to bring a book, I tend to read things like catalogs, signs, and labels).

My favorite genre and the one which takes up most of my collection is fantasy/sci-fi; I also read children's and adolescent literature, if it's well written and interesting (for instance I would never touch Sweet Valley High or Babysitter's Club but I love books by Zilpha Keatley Snyder, Beverly Cleary, and others like them).

The other significant portion of my collection involves non-fiction and focuses mostly on anthropology, linguistics, and archeology as well as the study and practice of various forms of divination, the occult, and religions. I enjoy scholastic treatments of the subject and thinking about things like word origins.

I have a small but important collection regarding law enforcement and law enforcement procedures; that is the genre in which I usually write and I need accurate references. It includes not only writers' guides but also legitimate forensics and police procedure textbooks and manuals. I'm somewhat of a true crime buff and I like reading about serial killers. As I'm within a stone's throw of Gainesville, where the University of Florida campus is located, we sort of have our own serial killer notoriety right there. I even went to the trouble of hunting down the sorority house so I could see it for myself.

I keep a reading journal because I have so many books going at one time I'm apt to lose them or not finish them. It records such details as when I started the book, the name of the book, whether or not I borrowed it and from whom. I'm also active in several book oriented communities such as LibraryThing and Book Mooch. Book Mooch will be my downfall; the point was to rid myself of books I don't like or won't read again. The site gives you points for giving away books which you can spend on books other people have to offer. I'll just bet you can guess what happened!

Fantasy books are by far my favorite. I love reading books that let my mind fill itself with all kinds of fictional nonsense. Horror's good too, and a good mystery book is always fun.

Fiction in general. I can't pick a specific genre. I like Stephen King's books, A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin, Kushiel's Legacy by Jacqueline Carey, the Harry Potter series... stuff that has elements of fantasy, I guess. I'm hoping to find some good horror or mystery, though.

Horror and mystery, huh? Have you heard of Mary Downing Hahn? She might not write horrors and her books might seem somewhat juvenile or for a young audience, but she is good at mystery and ghost stories. Some of my faves by her are The Old Willis Place, Deep and Dark and Dangerous, All The Lovely Bad Ones, and Wait Til Helen Comes. If you are looking for some and willing to read these, they are pretty good.

I prefer historical fiction, history books, and biographies. I like horror as a genre, but most horror books aren't all that scary.

I read most anything but my favorite is fantasy or Sci-Fi. I find the world to be too heavy sometimes and if I'm going to read about a costly war, I wanna read one written by an idealist instead of how war really is.
