Often called the Spanish Lon Chaney, Jacinto Molina Alvarez was in 1934 and acted under the name of Paul Naschy. Molina's most beloved and well known character was his eternally cursed, time traveling, cigar chomping, side-burn sporting nobleman Waldemar Daninsky.
Trip through Paul Naschy's curriculum vitae and you'll find some intriguing recurring motifs. In his films, if he isn't out of his element, a literal stranger in a strange land, then he's trying to protect his home against encroaching evil. No one has ever seemed less in their element than Daninsky. No home is shuttered tight enough, no castle wall high enough to safeguard him and the ones he loves from peril. And he knows this. You can see it in his eyes. Some times he wins, some times he loses, often he dies. The circle of life.
