On the sunniest days in the Keep, one can often walk by Lake Lakira and see Platypodes sleeping on rocks. If you are especially lucky, you might see a Duckmole. Contrary to popular belief, a Platypus is not the same thing as a Duckmole; Duckmoles are a particular group of related Platypodes that go by the name given to the whole species by the first humans to see them. Unsure of what the adorable but unusual creatures were, they decided that they were a cross between a duck and a mole, a "fact" which Magi now know to be completely false -- they are in fact the cross between a duck and an otter!
Members of the Duckmole family are rarer than the species as a whole, but even more valued as companions, for they are said to bring good luck and happiness to their owners, and one look at those adorable bills and feet will tell you why!
