Fjallaugar #776

General

The fjallaugar may be massive in size but it's incredibly gentle and friendly, willing to play with just about anyone that crosses its path. This can cause problems as fjallaugar have been known to grow so large that sleeping ones have been mistaken for mountains, especially with their stiff green manes. They're found mostly in the mountain ranges between Me'chuan and Alasre, particularly in more moderate climates. Although friendly, they seem to form small families of up to four partners and whatever hatchlings they're currently raising. However, large groups of fjallaugar have been known to gather in the open plains beneath the mountains, where they have playful mock battles and introduce hatchlings to each other.

Hatchling

A fjallaugar hatchling is a large and clumsy beast, though it doesn't mean to knock things over and break valuables. Hatchlings mostly just want attention, especially if that includes belly rubs, and will happily follow a magi anywhere it can still manage to squeeze itself into. Fjallaugar hatchlings can be unintentionally rough with other creatures, especially creatures smaller than them, and must be taught that people are easily harmed. However, a properly raised fjallaugar hatchling will be a great companion, if one that can eat entire forests within a week.

Adult

Many magi have mentioned that if the fjallaugar didn't grow to such an enormous size, it would be a perfect companion. Fjallaugar adults are friendly, playful, and generally try to be helpful, which some travellers find very useful when they need to carry something heavy for a long distance. In order to keep its size and continue growing, fjallaugar adults must spend at least half their day grazing, which can include everything from grass to bushes to entire trees. When not eating or helping their magi, they are very family-oriented, helping to raise any hatchlings and being affectionate with their partners.
