Amarth Alagos #73

General

Amarth alagos are unique creatures, their markings hinting at their magical abilities. They have amazing control over the element fire, and often pair with a magi strong in the same power. Amarths can bring fire into existence in an instance, and their skills are highly revered in wars. Even though alagos are noted for being solitary creatures, amarths can be seen with phoenixes, flying high above The Keep, catching a few rays of sun. During the nighttime, amarths are beautiful to see, literally shining in the darkness. For this reason, they hunt during the day, when their markings are less noticeable. As eggs and young hatchlings, they are almost too hot to touch, and must be handled carefully. As they age, they begin to control their powers with ever-growing prowess.

Egg

Light shines through the cracks in this incredibly hot egg.

Hatchling

When raising an amarth hatchling, it is important to be diligent. Although they may seem sweet and harmless when little, a magi will quickly learn otherwise. It is in an alagos's nature to be malevolent, and if unchecked, they can be unruly and cruel companions. At the present, your little one is busy hunting through dry grasses in search of a beetle or two to play with. You watch closely, noting how its beautiful markings seem somehow brighter than usual. Quicker than you would have thought possible, a patch of grass catches fire, and you rush forward to stamp it out. You turn to your companion worriedly, only to see it dancing from one foot from another, making little cawing sounds that sound suspiciously like laughter.

Adult

Alagos are rife in mythology, thought to be wise and prophetic. These birds feed on carrion and small animals, leaving foods such as insects and berries to their less powerful cousins. They make their homes in the northern parts of Silva Forest, and prey upon the small woodland animals found there. Amarth alagos migrate to warmer climates in the winter, the cold being too harsh for them. These birds love the sun, but seem more at home in darkness, their feathers glowing with inner light. Hatchlings of this breed need to be trained early on, due to the fact that they accidentally set things on fire until they have mastered their magic. Untrained amarths are true dangers, because they can easily become malicious. They are feral creatures, and it is not surprising that many tales told to frighten children include them. Amarths are as intelligent as they are cruel, and love pestering new students by stealing their things.
