Vedhrmarr #648

General

Vedhrmarr were long thought to be a trick of stormlight, appearing just on the edges of storms when the light is murky and the air is thick. They don't often appear during clear weather in the wild, but magi can see them running across the Foenaran grassland when storms sweep in from the ocean. They're strong and sturdy creatures, capable of travelling great distances even with a rider and supplies. Like their hvitamarr cousins, they have a particular fondness for poetry, especially the kind known as kenning. The silver male is most often associated with milder storms while the green female often foretells the arrival of damaging winds and hail. Vedhrmarr are very loyal to their magi and their magi's loved ones, and although they aren't as aggressive as their hvitamarr cousins, they will defend their family - including magi members - to the death.

Egg

You can hear the sound of thunderous hoofbeats coming from this horned silver egg.

Hatchling

Vedhrmarr hatchlings are surprisingly agile given their extra legs, but on bad footing or when they're excited, they will often tangle themselves up and fall on their noses. Fortunately they're sturdy creatures, and when balanced are fast enough that they're often little more than silvery or green blurs. Friendly and affectionate, vedhrmarr hatchlings grow fast but should not be ridden until they're full adults, to allow their long legs time to adjust to their weight. Their horns don't grow in until they're fully grown and are more for decoration than for real fighting.

Adult

Adult vedhrmarr are large, powerful beasts with a surprisingly smooth gait despite their many legs. When looking for one in the wild, a magi may be able to attract them by the use of kenning: poetry written using figurative expressions, the more obscure the better. When fully grown, vedhrmarr are capable of taking extended journeys with very little rest or food, and it's said that vedhrmarr and their hvitamarr cousins take old magi to their final resting places. They can also cross water of any size, including the ocean, by walking on the tops of the waves.
