That's what popped in my head tbh - it had been gone for a while. Must have gotten too cold for it so it came out? Or do they hibernate? How many are still missing? :t-woo:

They do hibernate, but my house is warm so I found it in my wood pile in my shed that attached to the house with a door that keeps the cold out.

Still missing 1.

Wow how weird that you say this perhaps you can give me some advice? I have been thinking of doing the same thing you are thinking, of teaching kids from China English. This was an idea given to me two years ago by a friend who was doing it herself on a laptop computer from her home and sometimes even on the go.

I didn't have a good computer at the time of her suggestion, but I do now, and I have been thinking of doing the TEFL certification. Do you think I can do the TEFL certification easily? What about ESOL (english/spanish)? I am native English and my 2nd language is Spanish. I do not have a teaching degree of any kind, have no experience teaching kids either, but I do have a degree (bachelors) in the arts.

Here's some info I was looking up myself, maybe you can do it from home like me? That way you don't have to leave the country (unless that is really what you want to do, if you can do it, then give it a shot, it's your life and you need to make yourself happier).

The reason I've been thinking if I should try this, is so that I can work from home. My hubby and I are looking for jobs right now and if he gets one outside of the house, then I need to get a job I can work from home at the very least. We only have one car so we have to share and we live in a condo so we only have one parking space (so there's no way in hell we can buy a 2nd car right now, need to save money/have stable jobs and then maybe we can sell our apt and move).

what do you think?

And I get what you mean about the U.S. education system, my mom was a teacher for 25 years (maybe longer) and I watched it drag her down to depression about her job, something that in the past she really did enjoy and love and she loved helping kids. If your job as a teacher isn't making you happy then yes you need to look into options...I hope you can start down a path towards your happiness. Everyone deserves to be happy with their life. :t-hugs:

From what I've heard, the TEFL certification is NOT difficult at all to get, just research a good company to go through. I have a teaching degree, which came with the ESL/TESOL certification because I'm in Texas and it's required here. I don't know of any English/Spanish programs out there because ESL/TEFL/TESOL/whatever you want to call it isn't really language-specific. Basically they'll just teach you basics on HOW to work with someone who doesn't speak your language. It's mostly about strategies.

I have a few friends who do the online teaching through VIPKids, but the issue they run into is the hours due to time difference. They have to work odd hours to match up with the times in China. They enjoy it because it can be done anytime, anywhere. I was at a hotel a while back and saw a lady sitting in the lobby teaching her lesson while she waited on the shuttle to pick her up for the airport! From what I know of that program, the kids have a base knowledge of English but not enough for reading/writing/speaking (maybe some speaking). So most of the teachers I know that do it really rely on props and visuals. However, VIPKids basically provide the lesson for you. You can just add to it where you see fit.

For ME, I don't want to do online teaching. I actually enjoy working hands-on with kids, so I've been applying for jobs in China through Teaching Nomad (a program my friends went through that supports you and helps find you a job.) I've been teaching for 9 years now and the first... four or five years were great. The politics are getting so bad and the high expectations with low pay is starting to drag me down. I can barely pay my bills and rent with my salary right now and that isn't acceptable for someone with 2 degrees and a steady career. The culture of U.S. education is also shifting into something really negative that's causing me mental stress.
I decided I want to try teaching overseas so I can truly tell is it me or is the system? The education system in Asian countries is so different from ours and I think that will give me a good contrast. My friend that is Beijing specifically has been encouraging me and explaining how the kids act better at school and the work load isn't insane like it is here. I need to know if I'm truly meant to keep doing this and I think seeing it from another perspective will help that decision.

Wonder what I do wrong in the Waynal that my stuff is literally priced under what others have and it won't move? D:

On another money note, my PS3 has suddenly decided its not going to play this one game anymore. Just the one, so far. It's fine with other games, Netflix, and Hulu, but oh, no, it doesn't like this game anymore. I can just see it deciding it's going to just die anyway.

Plus my laptop is so old, it isn't support by Microsoft anymore.

My iPhone is 4 generations old.

My car is old enough to graduate high school and the writing is on the wall of it having some major issues.

Am I ever going to be able to save money?

Can't wait to try out this new game called TemTem, it's going to be released through early access tomorrow and I'm hoping it's as good as all the reviews and videos I've seen so far.

I usually stay away from early access games on Steam due to past experiences, but it really seems this one is a good one to give a chance to. They have been doing patches and squishing bugs so I'm crossing my fingers for them and hope that it's a smooth as it could possibly be for an early access game tomorrow!

My only fear is that they are underestimating the demand and that's really the only thing that I'm worried about.

The control board in our dryer died late last week. Same thing happened in our washer several months ago. To get a replacement part almost costs as much as a new appliance. Last time we just got a refurbished washer. Now that we've had 6+ months with my husband at his new job with his new salary we could actually afford to outright buy a brand new dryer. It felt weird to just walk in, find one we liked, and pay for it without blinking because we actually have a small financial cushion. Makes my blood boil at how used he was at his old park. He'd been there 16 years and made less than the new hires the year he left.

It does feel weird to be able to walk into a store and outright buy something without having to have that internal conflict of "can I afford it? do I need it right now?" Of course, it's also completely ridiculous that anyone has to have these kinds of thoughts when buying anything.
